Cancer is a global disease requiring global response from governments and world leaders. While Komen for the Cure advocates for cancer support on a national -- and even international – level, Komen Affiliates tackle issues at a local level.
Arizona is an Option 1 (most restrictive) state under the Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000, which means that women who were screened at a non-Medicaid facility are not eligible for funds that have been earmarked for treatment. This disparity leaves many women with a diagnosis, but with few, if any, options for treatment and survival. On the other hand, women in Option 3 (least restrictive) states can receive treatment services regardless of where they were diagnosed.
Through the Komen Advocacy Alliance, we are calling attention to this disparity and demanding change from our state leaders. To make sure your voice is heard, sign our petition and join the Advocacy Alliance today!
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Advocacy Alliance (KAA) is the non-partisan voice for over 2.5 million breast cancers survivors and the people who love them. Our mission is to translate the Komen promise to end breast cancer forever into action at all levels of government to discover and deliver the cures.
