Free Breast Cancer Screenings Help Meet Needs of Underserved Communities
Every two years, Komen Phoenix conducts a
community health needs assessment to help guide the Affiliate’s
priorities and partnerships. The 2011 Community Profile Report has
identified some of the community’s most pressing needs; among these are
outreach and screening initiatives for African American, Native
American and Hispanic women. One of the Affiliate’s local grant
recipients, Pink 365, is helping to reach these underserved markets
through a series of free breast cancer screenings in partnership with
Komen Phoenix, Well Woman Health Check and Walgreens. Learn

Chandler Woman
Honored for Breast Cancer Outreach Among Local Chinese Community
When
Faustine Chan was in junior high school, a
representative of Komen Phoenix visited her classroom. Faustine went home and told her mother – a Chinese
woman who knew virtually nothing about breast cancer – what she had
learned. Within two weeks, her mother had found a lump. Today, more
than 15 years later, Faustine continues to
take every opportunity she can to educate others about breast health
and breast cancer. For her efforts, she was recently named the
recipient of the 2011 Joyce Gooding Spirit of Komen Award. Learn
