A message regarding recent funding decision.

February 1, 2012

There has been a lot of discussion about Komen’s national grants criteria being recently made more stringent to exclude organizations under formal investigation from receiving funding until the investigations are resolved. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us and want to be sure you are aware that this policy was created at the national level.

While we are currently prevented from participating in local news stories at the request of Komen National, we wanted to take this opportunity to share our thoughts with you directly.

Currently, Planned Parenthood does not receive funding from the Phoenix Affiliate. None of the current funding from Komen Phoenix for vital services in central and northern Arizona has been impacted.

Be assured that our priority remains providing life-saving services to the community and we will continue to fund local services to ensure the underserved and uninsured women and men of Arizona have continued access to care. Regardless of the national policy outcomes, our impact remains unchanged and this year alone, we anticipate granting more than $1.5 million to support nearly 3,000 screening mammograms, nearly 400 diagnostic procedures, treatment for nearly 150 patients, and educational programs to reach thousands of women throughout our community.

We appreciate and value your opinions and encourage you to continue to be a part of the cure here in Arizona.  We invite you to join the discussion regarding this national grants criteria change @SusanGKomen.
